Swimming WA Junior Short Course Championships
Congratulations to all of the swimmers and coaches representing UWA-West Coast this weekend at the Swimming WA State Junior Short Course Championships.
63 swimmers are registered to compete in 261 individual events and 23 relay teams.Parents are encouraged to check the program and make sure that all events are correctly listed.
It will be a busy few days of competition, so please pay attention to the forecast TIMELINE (also attached). This is only a guide, so swimmers are encouraged to be at the pool 90-minutes prior to the advertised start time for their events. This will leave plenty of time to talk to your coach and do a proper warm-up.
Remember to MARSHAL PROMPTLY once your event number is posted on the electronic board underneath the main scoreboard. This is a State Championship event, so anyone late to marshalling risks being declined a start if they don’t check into marshalling on time. It’s also important to be proud of our Club! Can everyone please wear a UWA-West Coast swim cap when racing (not a UWA Sport training cap) and if you’re lucky enough to win a medal then you need to wear a club shirt for medal presentations. Contact Tuija Wasstrom on 0410 500 647 if you need any UNIFORM items.
RELAY TEAMS have been finalised as per the attached schedule. Please check to see if you’ve been listed as a ‘starter’ or as a ‘reserve’ and read the following information about relay team selections:
• All relay swimmers must report to our volunteer ‘RELAY MARSHAL’ (Deb Kruger on 0417 017 106) in the grandstand as soon as they arrive at the pool so that we can make sure everyone listed to swim has checked in before heading down to pool-deck. If you’re running late, then please let Deb know ASAP so that a replacement can be found for your team – remember, the team can’t swim without you!
• Individual 50m freestyle or form stroke performances swum during the Junior SC Championships MAY influence selection changes to the older Boys 11-13yr and Girls 11-12yr relay teams. Improved times may count and ANY swimmer competing in individual events at the championships is eligible for relay selections, including those not listed on the attached relay schedule. Coaches will notify swimmers if this occurs; &
• No performance-based changes will occur to the younger 9-10yr Boys and Girls relay teams. They will remain as listed unless someone is unwell or suddenly not available.
LET’S CELEBRATE THE END OF THE SC SEASON. The Club invites all Junior swimmers (including those who aren’t attending Junior States) and their families and coaches to join us at the Floreat Hotel at the conclusion of State Junior SC Champs from about 4pm on Sunday 20 Sept. The club will be providing some finger food with families to purchase their own drinks.
Please RSVP to Phip via timekeeping@uwawestcoast.org by Thursday 17 Sept if attending.Good Luck and Go UWA-West Coast!
