PERFORMANCE NATIONAL SQUAD

This Squad is for competitive swimmers who are seeking to make finals or medal at Open/Age National Championships. Athletes complete individualised training programs where a very high level of commitment is required.

DEVELOPING NATIONAL SQUAD GREEN

Swimmers should have a clear understanding of what their goals are and will spend more time training for specific events and dryland strength training. This Squad is for competitive swimmers who are seeking to achieve qualifying times to compete at National Championships.

PERFORMANCE PATHWAY AND SENIOR SQUADS

  • Performances are reviewed after benchmark season meets. National Championships, State Long Course Championships and Short Course Championships.
  • Invitations to join the squad or to meet the squad coach to discuss the opportunity are sent in the weeks following competition, in order of criteria priority, based on availability in squads.
  • Age is the minimum age as at the next benchmark competition.

OPEN SQUAD

The UWSC Open squad is part of the UWSC competitive pathway offering swimmers (previously in a Performance Squad) training at a high level without the commitment to a performance squad program. By invitation from the Club.

UWA West Coast Backstroke

YOUTH SQUAD

The UWSC Youth squad is part of the UWSC competitive pathway offering swimmers moving from Junior (8yrs to 12yrs) swimming programs to an Age (13yrs plus) swimming program without the commitment to a performance squad.

UWA STUDENT SQUAD

UWA Student Squad is for University Students looking to get back to swimming, or swimmers keen to keep fit and meet other like minded swimmers at Uni.

JOHN SHEPPHERD

ASSISTANT PERFORMANCE COACH

John is an AUSTSWIM TCS and holds a Sports Science Degree. John started swimming with West Coast in 2014 and is former National Silver Medallist in the 50m Breaststroke.

CHELSEA UNWIN

ASSISTANT PERFORMANCE COACH

Chelsea is a SATCS Coach who has been involved with UWSC for over 10 years. Chelsea has represented UWSC at National Age Championships and was a Finalist in Butterfly, Breaststroke and IM events. She is a great mentor for our developing athletes and takes a lead in supporting women and girls in sport.

SOPHIE NEWLAND

JUNIOR & YOUTH COACH

Sophie is a Swim Australia Teacher of Competitive Swimming Coach (SATCS). She has previously swum with UWSC as a competitive swimmer in the Developing National Squad and overseas with two other swimming Clubs.
