Uni and Youth Squad

UWA WEST COASTUNI & YOUTH SQUAD

Uni & Youth Squad Swimmers will have the opportunity to train without the commitment to a Performance Squad Program.

The UWA West Coast Uni and Youth Squad is recommended for high school and university students.

Uni and Youth squad swimmers will have the opportunity to train with swimmers of a similar ability and age group.

The UWSC Uni and Youth squad is part of the UWSC competitive pathway offering swimmers with other sporting interests or school requirements the chance to continue swimming and training at a high level without the commitment to a performance squad program.

FAQ – Which training days and how many sessions should my swimmer attend?

  • To improve and achieve best swimming outcomes UWSC recommends swimmers attend regular training sessions at both of our squad training venues HBF Stadium and UWA Aquatic Centre. It is advisable for swimmers to become familiar with both venues, particularly, if they are interested in moving through to UWSC Performance squads.
  • Main set days are: Monday, Thursday (form stroke) and Saturdays.
  • Where possible swimmers should try to attend at least one or two of these days and then other days that fit with their schedule.
  • Swimmers in Uni and Youth Squad are encouraged to talk with their coaches about their swimmer goals, from improving in their pool swimming and racing to open water swimming and racing.
  • Suggested Equipment: Swim Cap, Goggles, Fins, Kickboard, Pull Buoy, Front Snorkel, Hand Paddles, Drink Bottle

Suggested number of training sessions for Uni and Youth Squad:

Swimmers (with other sporting and study commitments): 2 – 3 sessions
Swimmers looking to move to performance squads and compete: 3 – 4 sessions or more.

JANUARY 2024 SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM:
Youth Squad will run the same schedule as per in-term schedule over JANUARY school holidays (Tuesday 2 January 2024), swimmers will be able to register for additional ‘casual’ sessions over this period via UWSC Customer Portal.
