Some of WA’s best swimmers swapped their goggles for whistles and stopwatches as they took part in the UWA West Coast All Stars Coaching Clinics. Gemima Horwood, Grant Irvine, Nick Brown, Zac Incerti and Josh Edwards-Smith were all at HBF Stadium on Saturday morning to coach their younger teammates in preparation for the 2020 SunSmart Club Premierships to be held on the March long weekend. Stroke technique was a key focus, but it was a unique opportunity for younger UWA West Coast swimmers to speak with their idols about racing tactics, handling pre-meet nerves and the like that was very special.
UWA West Coast SC President Mr. Steve Hill was at the clinic and praised the senior swimmers for giving back;
This is a key part of our Club culture at UWA West Coast. Our National Swimmers are required to help out with these clinics and to give back to the next crop of swimmers coming through. The strength of our Club depends on Club initiatives such as these. My thanks to the Committee and the athletes and of course the swimmers themselves, for making it such a worthwhile morning” Mr Hill said.
